Double D Music About Chris Dekker
Chris Dekker
Influences Growing up in the 70s and a family-run country music station, my influences included the Eagles, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Alabama, Marshal Tucker Band, and their Canadian contemporaries The Band, the Stampeders, and the Cooper Brothers.
Location
Yes, we know that it is hard to pronounce but easy to draw. Whether it’s the vast expanse, the living skies, or the prairie lifestyle, Saskatchewan is home to some of the most innovative and successful country artists in the world – Colter Wall, Jess Moskaluke, The Dead South, Tenile Arts – just to name a few.
Education
With an honours degree in commerce and decades of experience in international trade and economic development, I know the other side of the music business – business.
Musicianship
With years of live-performance and recording experience playing drums, guitars, and keyboards, I have a well-rounded understanding of the foundations of song writing, and hit-making.
Why it matters
There are few successful country artists that have made it solely on their singing or musical ability. It takes songs for that talent to coalesce. I understand the subtle difference between a great song, and a great song with great commercial potential.
Why “Double D” Music?
Christine and Harry Dekker Double Dekker Breakfast Club CFQC Saskatoon
In the early 50’s, my Dad was the morning show host at CFQC Radio in Saskatoon, SK. There, he fell in love with and married the receptionist who quickly became his on-air co-host. They were among the first husband and wife morning show broadcasters in Canada - the “Double Dekker Breakfast Club”.

Last One to Leave

Breaking up doesn’t always have to end with a fight over who gets the dog. Some couples can call it a day, leave the house, and simply say “Last One to Leave, Turn Out the Lights”

Hugs & Kisses

One of the first songs I ever wrote. What’s better than XOXOXOs? Of all the fabulous things about his ex, that ain’t what he misses.

Of All the Songs

This is about a songwriter who is both a romantic & a classic movie buff. After a chance encounter with the girl of his dreams he watches “Casablanca” and writes this song.

Comin Undone

Travelling on a country road I drove by a young man leaning against his truck looking at his cell. After slowing down to check on him, he smiled and waived me on. What was on his mind?

What About Love?

Regardless of age or years in a relationship – or perhaps because if it – the struggle to keep the fires burning is all about continual improvement. What does it take to maintain contentment? What about love?

Shadow of a Doubt

This is a song about insecurity and uncertainty and their enemy - comfort and reassurance.

I Wanna Meet Jolene

Of all the lyrics written about girls, the expression of beauty and guile in Dolly Parton songs is celestial. Sorry Chapel Hart, I wanna meet Jolene

Christmas Rain

It didn’t start as a Christmas song, but one night a good friend suggested the Hans Christian Anderson classic "The Little Match Girl" as a subject. Modernized, the story remains the same.

Sad Story

Little by little, we let go of the loss - but never the love. This is about finding someone to talk to about her love and her dignity and her courage and her selflessness.
